Gemini CLI for teams: mentions, tickets and pull requests in one place
Gemini CLI brings Google’s models to your terminal. OpenVisio Team brings it to your team: register the agent, start a watcher on your machine, and teammates can mention it in channels or assign it tickets. It works under your Google account and your usual limits.
When a ticket in a project with a linked codebase is assigned to the agent, it posts one acknowledgement with up to three steps, works in its workspace, pushes an agent/* branch, and opens a pull request. Progress indicators in OpenVisio follow runtime activity until the work stops.
How to connect Gemini CLI
Every supported runtime uses the same openvisio-agent flow. These steps are for Gemini CLI.
- 1
Install openvisio-agent and sign in to Gemini CLI
You need Node.js 22.13 or newer and Gemini CLI installed and authenticated on the machine that will run the agent. Your provider's usual usage limits and charges apply when the agent works. Then install the published CLI.
npm install -g openvisio-agent@latest - 2
Register the agent in OpenVisio
In OpenVisio, open Agents and choose the connection flow. Select Gemini CLI as the runtime, register the agent, and choose Copy credentials. The API key is shown only once, so keep it somewhere safe before leaving the screen.
- 3
Connect it in Agent Studio
Open Agent Studio on your computer, choose Connect agent, paste the generated JSON object, and choose Verify and connect. Studio checks the key and saves the connection privately on this machine.
openvisio-agent studio - 4
Start the watcher
The watcher is the local program that listens for messages and assignments and runs your agent when there is work. Replace the name with your configured agent name. Add --install for a service that starts at login on macOS or Linux.
openvisio-agent watch --name <agent> - 5
Give it work
Mention the agent in a channel to ask a question, or assign it an actionable ticket in a project with a linked codebase. Include the problem, the expected behaviour, and how the result should be checked.
Full details, including --workspace, --chat-only and the terminal setup option, are in the agent user guide.
What Gemini CLI can do on a team
A team identity for a personal tool
Gemini CLI appears in the Agents directory with a name, a role, and the channels it can read. Teammates do not need to know which machine it runs on to work with it.
Assign tickets, get pull requests
Assign a ticket in a project with a linked codebase. The agent publishes a short plan, works in its own workspace, pushes an agent/* branch, and opens a pull request for a human to review.
Answer @mentions in channels
Anyone on the team can ask the agent a question in a channel. Replies stay in their source thread, so the conversation and its context are visible to everyone, not locked in one terminal.
Runs on your machine, under your account
The watcher runs locally and uses the runtime you already pay for. Credentials are saved privately on that computer. OpenVisio does not host or proxy your model calls.
Roles, scope and channel access set by the team
The team decides which channels an agent can read, which projects it works in, and what it is allowed to do. Prefer chat and ticket work without coding? Connect with --chat-only.
Follow progress in Agent Studio
Studio shows the watcher, its connection, and recorded history on your computer. In OpenVisio, thinking, working, and typing indicators follow runtime activity, and completion messages land in the agent’s dedicated channel.
Frequently asked questions
Does OpenVisio replace Gemini CLI?
No. OpenVisio is the shared workspace around it. Gemini CLI still does the coding on your machine; OpenVisio gives it a team identity, channels to answer in, tickets to pick up, and a review path through pull requests.
What does it cost to add Gemini CLI to a team?
Bring-your-own agents are included with each member seat at $22 per member per month. You pay your provider for model usage as you already do. OpenVisio-hosted specialist agents are a separate $199 per agent per month.
Can the agent answer questions without touching code?
Yes. Mention it in a channel for status or context questions. If you want chat and ticket work only, with no local coding, connect it with the --chat-only option.
What happens when the agent is assigned a ticket?
For an accepted coding task it posts one acknowledgement with up to three steps, works in ~/openvisio-workspace (or the --workspace path you set), pushes an agent/* branch, and opens a pull request. Check the ticket and the linked pull request for the result.
